“Educators have to facilitate learning in such a way that is empowering and supportive. Our job is not to preach, it is to inspire and encourage others to BE the critical thinkers they are.”
Times are constantly evolving, yet the American education system remains rooted in traditions shaped by rigid discipline, conformity, and white supremacy—realities that are well documented and critically examined across institutions of higher learning. Acknowledging this history is not an indictment, but an invitation: once we confront these truths, we can begin to reimagine what education can and should be.
What does equitable, inclusive learning look like in a multicultural society today? Must learning even be confined to a traditional classroom?
My philosophy as an educator centers on empowering students to explore their identities and lived experiences while cultivating the ability to listen openly, engage respectfully with differing perspectives, and think critically about the world around them. From this place of curiosity and shared vulnerability, we examine complex questions through the lenses of the humanities, politics, literary arts, and culture. By understanding the past, we gain clarity about the present—and create space to collectively imagine and work toward a more just and expansive future.
